God uses ordinary people like you, like me. It’s been said, and I believe it to be true, that God isn’t looking so much for your ability as He is looking for your availability. God looks at your heart (1 Samuel 16:7), and that’s where the work begins.

1 Samuel 16:7 (NKJV) “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

He is looking for a willing and ready heart. God has so much He wants to do through you.

The people around you don’t know your heart, but God does. He is ready to start working there today. He’ll shape you and mold you and conform you into the image of Jesus Christ. This means He will begin to actively break you. You will have a choice at every moment to give in and surrender, to become completely broken, because that’s His heart. He doesn’t want you filled with sin, mistreating yourself and others, puffed up with pride.

God wants you broken. Why? Because God can build you up through your brokenness. When you’re broken, you cry out to God. When you’re broken, you’re dependent. When you’re broken, you’re open and available. God can heal you when you’re broken and make you into something incredible.

Psalm 34:17–19 (NKJV) “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.”
