I’m often asked, and maybe you are too, how a person can be used greatly by the Lord. How can I really know the direction I am supposed to take? Which way should I go?

Wise King Solomon, when writing down his wisdom statements in the Proverbs, said this:

Proverbs 14:12 (NKJV) “There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.”

And he also wrote:

Proverbs 16:9 (NKJV) “A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.”

If you want to be used greatly by the Lord, you need to know the Bible. Read it. Study it. Memorize it. Use it. I know it sounds simple enough, but the wisdom of God is contained in the Word of God. You will jump on your phone today for email, texting, and social media.  But those are not the Word of God and won’t give you the kind of wisdom God’s Word will. The world has a way, and God has a way. You live in the world, so you’re saturated with the wisdom of the Word. Hearing from God requires you to seek Him, living daily with the consciousness of His presence.

Psalm 139:7–12 (NKJV) “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me; Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You.”

When you are absorbed in God’s Word, you also grow in your abiding relationship with Him. It’s where you are in the best position to hear from God and respond in obedience.

John 16:13 (NKJV) “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

Psalms 119:104-105 (NKJV) Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way. Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

Because we really don’t know what God will do today, it’s important to seek Him first as soon as we wake up in the morning.  He is ready to speak!
