This past weekend was a historic time for the fellowship family of Calvary Aurora. We had an old fashioned mortgage burning service where we symbolically lit up a piece of flash paper representing the mortgage the church recently paid off.  What a fun exciting day. (And top of that, the Broncos won the Super Bowl!)

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3.20-21

Looking back we celebrated the faithfulness of God, in the many good times, and the occasional difficult times in our church life. It is no small thing to take major steps of faith becoming totally dependent upon God for His provision. But that is the testimony of our church history past. We anticipate it to be the testimony of our church future as well.

I remember back in the late 90’s when our little family and a few friends were praying about leaving Southern California to launch out and be used of God in the start of a new church somewhere in the United States. It was a very difficult time leaving our home. We grew up there. All of our family was there. Eight years of friendships, relationships, and fruitful ministry were there. But we were stirred. God opened the doors. So we packed up to move.  My kids were so excited with their Broncos gear as God narrowed our move to the beautiful growing city of Aurora, Colorado. (Eddie was a very important part of this church plant and is very missed!)

And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. Matt 16:18 (NKJV)

We started our first Sunday morning service on December 26, 1999.  There were about fifty or so adults joining us to worship Jesus that bright and sunny morning.  There was a palpable excitement in that transformed cafeteria or maybe it was a little nervousness as people were wondering, “who is this guy?”.  We could sense the presence of the Holy Spirit in our midst, a sense that has never ceased!  Week after week, month after month, year after year, God used that room, filled with His church to transform lives and steadily grow His fellowship. We met together in that school for seven years.

While we were always looking for another facility other than the school it was really around 2002-2003 that we began praying about permanently exiting Columbia Middle School where we were renting for Sunday services. Since there were no suitable buildings for sale or lease in our area, we chose to purchase a small piece of land, a little over 4 acres. On that land was built a building, then a building addition, then a radio station, then a parking lot expansion, then another radio station, and finally the mortgage was retired. It’s amazing what God has done and continues to do.

Friends, God is not done with what He wants to do on the earth today.  He is just beginning to use Calvary Aurora in reaching the lost in our Jerusalem (Aurora), Judea, Samaria (Denver Metro, Colorado, US), and the utter most parts of the world (Acts 1:8).  He is actively bringing Himself glory through us, reaching the lost, and rescuing people from sin through faith in Jesus Christ. IMG_2546

As a fellowship family we are blessed by the past, but know that we are moving “Forward” by faith, looking unto Jesus.  I invite you to join us in prayer as we seek to step out in ever increasing steps of faith

“looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Heb 12:2 (NKJV)
