My pastor would often remind us to do our best and commit the rest. I like that! It was, and still is, a comforting reminder that whatever I do, I can trust God through it. I want to give God my best as I rest in Him, abiding in His love and joy!
Yet many, perhaps even you, aren’t giving God your best. You’re uncertain, insecure, or afraid of failure.
There are times when we excuse ourselves from serving the Lord because of our own sense of inadequacy. We often feel unqualified, unsure, and even incapable of doing what God might be asking us to do. It’s easy to look around and assume someone else is more skilled, more gifted, or more prepared. They probably are in many ways. So we silently step out of the way, giving room to others whom we think are better than us.
But, friend, that’s not how God works.
God is not always looking for the most talented or the most qualified, whoever that may be. He is looking for a willing heart. He doesn’t require us to be the strongest or the smartest. What He asks is that we show up, ready to follow Him. He calls us to make ourselves available to Him, even when we feel weak or uncertain.
1 Corinthians 1:27-29 (NLT) “Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.”
God’s work in your life is not limited by your background, your education, or your abilities. He sees beyond all of that. He sees your heart. He knows what He can do through someone who says yes.
When Joab stood on the battlefield with his brother Abishai, surrounded by enemies, he said something so encouraging and powerful. He just reminded his brother of where to place his courage:
1 Chronicles 19:13 (NKJV) “Be of good courage, and let us be strong for our people and for the cities of our God. And may the Lord do what is good in His sight.”
It’s amazing where your faith will take you! You take the step, you present yourself to God, you serve, and you leave the outcome in the hands of the Lord. It’s a safe place to be faithful while trusting in your faithful God.
Some of the most meaningful ministry happens through ordinary people like you and me who consistently obey the Lord. It’s essential that you follow Him as you read your Bible and pray every day. Trust God to both lead you and equip you for every good work!
Romans 12:1–2 (NKJV) “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
You may not feel like you have much to offer. But when you place your life in God’s hands, He will use you in ways you never expected. You may feel unprepared or overwhelmed, but the Spirit of God will strengthen you as you step out in obedience.
The Lord is with you, and He delights in using faithful servants who are willing to trust Him.
Do your best and commit the rest.
