Who is the person that God uses? This is not a trick question and is best asked in front of a mirror! There, you may be surprised by the answer. He starts with people like you and me!

We often have a very different idea of who God uses than God does! If you’re not careful, the criteria you come up with could easily exclude you!

1 Samuel 16:7 (NKJV) “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Remember, God looks at the heart. He is looking for people who have a heart for Him and His Word. People who are teachable and willing to be used by Him. If you have a heart for God, He will use you! It doesn’t matter how smart you are or how famous you are.

So don’t think that you’re not good enough, smart enough, or important enough for God to use. He can use anyone who is willing! So be glad, and watch how God will work through you uniquely!

2 Chronicles 16:9 (NKJV) “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars.”

I love that verse! Every time I read it, my heart leaps with joy desiring to be that person used by God in even greater ways than before.

So is God looking for someone with towering intellect? Is He only interested in those that are smart and highly educated? Is God looking for the naturally charismatic, someone who can move a crowd, someone with a deep, booming voice? Or is God looking for different timber when looking to light a spiritual fire on the earth today?

1 Corinthians 1:26–31 (NKJV) “For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.”

Friend, don’t be so quick to write yourself off because of your past, upbringing, or even your present situation. God loves to use the unlikely in this fallen world so that He alone would get all the glory for the great things He has done!

Joel 2:25 (NKJV) “So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, The crawling locust, The consuming locust, And the chewing locust, My great army which I sent among you.”

If you want to be used by God, it doesn’t matter how smart you are or where you come from. God is a God of extraordinary grace and second chances, and He can use anyone who is willing to trust Him. So step out in faith today! You may be surprised at what He does throughout your life.

Do you have a desire to be used by God in more incredible ways? If so, take heart! God is looking for people just like you to use for His glory! Trust Him and step out in faith today! You may be surprised at what He does through your life!
